Multidisciplinary Dyslexia Assessments
At the Muir Practice, we are proud to offer a comprehensive, multidisciplinary dyslexia assessment service designed to provide a thorough understanding of each child’s learning profile.
Our team includes specialist teachers who conduct detailed assessments in collaboration with an experienced educational psychologist, ensuring the most accurate and insightful results. Our assessment is completed at the child’s school, allowing them to remain in a familiar and comfortable setting with minimal disruption to their daily routine. This approach helps reduce any potential stress, enabling the child to feel at ease and focus throughout the process.
What Our Assessment Involves
Our dyslexia assessment is a structured, multi-step process that takes approximately nine hours to complete.
Each step has been designed to gather a full understanding of the child’s learning experience and needs, with minimal interruption to their regular school day.
The process includes:
- Initial Parent Consultation
We begin with a phone consultation with parents to discuss initial concerns, background, and expectations for the assessment. - Teacher Consultation
A further consultation with the child’s teacher is conducted to gather insights into the child’s learning behaviour and progress within the school setting. - Initial Child Meeting
In a friendly and supportive session, we meet with the child to gain their perspective on learning. This helps us understand their unique experiences and insights. - Dyslexia Screener & Guidance
The child completes a dyslexia screener, allowing us to gather initial data. We also provide guidance throughout the process to help both the child and their parents understand what dyslexia is and how it might impact learning. - WIAT Assessment
A key part of our assessment is the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT). This in-depth assessment covers essential areas such as reading, spelling, mathematics, and written expression, giving us a comprehensive view of the child’s skills and challenges. - Report Writing After the assessment process
Our team compiles a detailed report summarising findings and insights. This process takes approximately three hours and results in a report that clearly communicates the results and recommendations. - Multidisciplinary Team Review
Once the report is complete, our team convenes to discuss the assessment results. This team meeting ensures a thorough review of all data and helps us reach a confident conclusion regarding a dyslexia diagnosis. - Feedback Session
Finally, we hold a feedback session with the parents, teachers, and child. This can be held over Zoom or at school and allows us to explain the findings, answer any questions, and discuss next steps.
Why Choose the Muir Practice?
With our multidisciplinary team approach, we provide a truly comprehensive assessment experience that goes beyond basic testing. By collaborating closely with both teachers and an educational psychologist, we ensure a balanced, insightful evaluation.
Our commitment to conducting the assessment at the child’s school means less disruption to their day and allows the child to be assessed in comfortable, familiar surroundings. Our goal is to empower children, parents, and teachers alike with a clear understanding of each child’s unique learning profile and actionable steps to support their success.
